In the conjuring 2 teaser trailer the film uses change in pace to keep the audience attention. This is done by using a change in pace from a slow tempo that creates tension with music in a low minor key to a montage sequence with high notes that creates a contrast in section. This is used in the beginning of the trailer where the montage is earlier on - followed by a title card and then a moment of tension in the basement followed by two claps to again change the tempo/pace. The main reason for this is to show important pieces in the montage without showing the scene and giving away too much information - this also has use of the enigma code in which the threat is not fully explained and becomes a mystery so the audience will want to 'consume' the film. The trailer also uses binary opposites from Vladimir Propps character theory; The villain and The princess. while the main woman is not shown to be 'desired' by the hero - they are shown to be in need of savin...

I n The cabin in the woods one of the themes raised in the film is teen punishment. The first piece of evidence for this is that the gamblers say "they don’t transgress" , "they can't be punished". This raises the idea that if the characters didn’t participate in: sex, alcohol , drugs or violence then they would be spared. However at the end it is shown that they would die regardless. The sub text to this is as they are teenagers they were going to die due the control of outside forces other than their own and considering the adults were in charge , that the adults should have been punished in the end. This is also shown when patience (the last redneck zombie) bypasses Dana on the stair case and instead kills the woman in charge of the sacrificial ritual to 'the old ones' . Another theme that is raised is gender and sexuality. In some parts of the film such as the beginning when Holden witnesses Dana changing outfits. i nstead of giving...
The cabin in the woods conventions and subgenre

In 'the cabin in the woods' the film uses the conventions of different sub-genres. The film does this initially by introducing five stock characters seen in the horror genre – Dumb blonde, jock , fool , nerd and the virgin or final girl they distort these characters by giving them unusual traits. They synthetically made the blonde less cognitive in her thinking. The jock is also smart as is the stoner. Cross cutting is used to show the buildup of the film. One scene in which the controllers of the gamble say "they don’t transgress" "they can't be punished" suggests that the film is not about teen punishment ( this is also linked to how the 'virginal' character is not a virgin but is still the final girl). The film also uses conventional locations – a secluded cabin. Which is typical of the slasher genre, however the aggressors are at first the zombies. The zombies are also shown to be unconventional as they do not bite their victims; instead tort...
