The conjuring teaser trailer content and structure analysis.

In the conjuring 2 teaser trailer the film uses change in pace to keep the audience attention. This is done by using a change in pace from a slow tempo that creates tension with music in a low minor key to a montage sequence with high notes that creates a contrast in section. This is used in the beginning of the trailer where the montage is earlier on - followed by a title card and then a moment of tension in the basement followed by two claps to again change the tempo/pace. The main reason for this is to show important pieces in the montage without showing the scene and giving away too much information - this also has use of the enigma code in which the threat is not fully explained and becomes a mystery so the audience will want to 'consume'  the film. The trailer also uses binary opposites from Vladimir Propps character theory; The villain and The princess. while the main woman is not shown to be 'desired' by the hero - they are shown to be in need of saving. the monster/spirit of the trailer is shown to be the villain this is as it terrorizes the 'princess'. This also reveals the antagonist - this is done by the small montage (door slam, light bulb explosion) and the two claps from behind the woman. The main point of this is to create a narrative in which one character holds more power than the other - this is usually taken from the disequilibrium section of the movie as equilibrium or resolution sections (from Todorov's theory) give to much backstory or premonition. The billing blocks and title cards are threaded through out the trailer so that it is easier to read for the audience; Director names , Actor names etc. can be used to create more attention to the trailer.
