Regulation - effectiveness in netflix era + who should regulate for children.

Film regulation is not effective in the Netflix era as the internet has no governing body of regulation. Due to the fact there is no classification, there is the possibility that content that is classified by the television or film industry may be easier to access by younger people. The access to the internet has created a way for multiple people to create content which can be accessed at all times. One way that this can impact the populace is by creating a desensitized society. this could create a lower outrage on violent crimes seen as the norm. On the other hand However, some larger organizations are using the classifications set by the bbfc – (such as Netflix) this shows a persuasion on the internet that is largely safer than YouTubes algorithms. This may be for industry gain and not for the families as parents are more likely to subscribe to something they believe is safer for their children. Desensitization theory states that people that are desensitized are less likely to have

Contemporary age media

Media regulation is difficult to maintain in the contemporary age. There are many different bodies that regulate some being non-statutory such a the bbfc however they still have to abide by laws of the government showing that they can still be influenced. Television is monitored and regulated by offcom which is statutory. The problems that arise with this is that there is the potential for regulation to change drastically every four years. The internet is normally non-statutory and reactive, this causes issues as millions may have seen the content before it is removed. With the internet involved many individuals are able to create their own content causing an overload in the amount of information that can be regulated. I believe that this is ineffective as people are always able to reupload content. However television being pro-active/preemptive in its regulation shows censorship which in some cases may lead to maladaptive issues within the media itself (for example class censorship) t

Regulation

Regulation is the censorship of particularly harmful content and footage that is available to the public. This can be via blocking it altogether or a system that allows for people of certain ages being able to access media (the age rating on films, games, websites and even some books) this of course has to be implemented with laws or the regulation would not work – however some people still do not follow that understanding and illegal proxy sites like pirate bay exists in which people can steal content as long as they have the means. Schools can regulate what their students see (via networks which is a much smaller scale regulation) and are prone to block indecent websites as well as social media sites. An example in music is the censoring of words considered crass or cuss. Regulators on the other hand must be a well informed diverse group of people with different views. The would most likely to emulate an audience so that the information does not offend the sensibilities of different

How does Narrative apply to the trailer? christmas holiday re-write

In this essay I will be discussing how narrative applies to my trailer. I will be doing this by using existing examples from my trailer and the theories put forward by Todorov, Levi- Strauss and Propp. Todorov states that there are five stages in a narrative however as I am creating a trailer and not a film the only one that will be applicable is Disruption/ Disequilibrium. This is as equilibrium gives backstory and resolution shows the ending to the audience. We applied this in my trailer throughout however it is shown on screen most in the montage sequence. The monsters clawed hand is shown dragging over a tiled wall at the same time as another clip of the victim. the lowkey lighting and blood on the monster’s hand; as well as the bruising on the victim shows that this is the disruption as it has the conventions of a monster mauling a victim stock scene. My work conforms to the rules of Todorov’s theory as it would be the mid-section of the film and works as such. However, the jump
